The 2012 club handicap took place on Wednesday 1st August. This event, which is one of the favourite competitions in the summer club calendar, saw a good range of player grades throwing up some very interesting contests. Essentially, the handicap system meant that those with lower grades would stand a fair chance against players with high grades as they would receive a much larger amount of clock time. Some mixed results emerged from this together with some frantic finishes! |
 |
| Club players were clearly taking this event very seriously as was evident from some notable pre-match preparation carried out by certain players. Both Archer and Hirst studiously put in some extra-curricular work as they began carefully preparing for the handicap tournament fully 2 hours before it began!! For some strange reason this preparation did not reap full rewards as neither player could overcame the mighty Mike Round....and nor could anyone else! |

Congratulations to Mike Round who put together a faultless 6/6 score. This was particularly impressive when bearing in mind that Mike had a time handicap deficit in almost all of his games. Andy Bagley and Rich Archer managed joint second with 4.5 points. There was a good performance from the improving Peter Clark who racked up 3.5 points. A good time was had by all and perhaps further handicap events could be introduced into the summer calendar in future years. |
