The club lightning championship was a six round event played on Wednesday 15th August 2012. The format was based on 10 seconds per move between buzzers. A total of twelve players took part with a range of grades. Most regulars turned up with the exception of Warren Dennison who perhaps stayed away psyching himself up for the club champion simultaneous in a weeks time. |
An in-form Paul Howden showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels as he managed to score an impressive 5/6 points. By winning his last game in style Paul put the pressure on the remaining match on top board between Mike and Clive. Paul was now a clear point ahead. Mike and Clive were battling it out in a very close rook and pawn ending. Unfortunately, some stupid ginger drunk nearly ruined the game by fiddling with the buzzer! However, Mike and Clive rose above this and produced a tense final game that eventually ended in a draw. This left Paul with the outright lead. |
